Gaming has been blamed for years for contributing to a new generation of kids who are more inclined to be obese than their parents and that is probably true. There is, however, good news because gaming has started to reach an extremely immersive level. To start with the technology in gaming visors and VR games has been coming on in leaps and bounds and now a company called Virtuix have created a way for you to get exercise and play your games. The Omni as it is known is a treadmill which syncs up to a VR visor to allow you to play games using your own movements. As you walk, run or crouch the treadmill transmits this to the game and allows you to move your character in real time.
This new technology really gives you that extra level of immersion into the game making you feel like you are that soldier stalking that alien-zombie thing. Not only does it improve immersion but you are actually getting a workout as you play your game. The system even goes so far as to record your physical activity so you can track how far you have walked and how many calories you have burned. Working out is so much easier when you are doing something that is fun because it frankly does not feel like exercise. This adjustable treadmill features a belt which holds you in place so you don’t have to worry about walking blindly off the device. There is also a range of accessories for the Omni including super comfy gaming shoes for those long missions. [via Virtuix]
