The electric air sled uses a HobbyKing 150cc brushless electric motor to make playing in the snow more fun even without slopes. The motor and prop were initially based on a specially made wood and steel box, that has been connected to a metal frame and properly secured to the backside of a Terrain sled. The bendy plastic floor of the sled created some drag in the snow, so the maker trim and fitted the seat to help disperse the weight for a smoother drive.
A sheet foam rudder out back is operated by wires connected to a metal shaft installed in the center of the sled, as a cordless RC transmitter is employed to adjust motor power using a receiver linked to a digital speed controller.
As is, this design should likely be kept in the “don’t try this at home” class of DIY builds, however with the inclusion of some type of cage over the prop, it might be made significantly safer to use.
